FÁBRICA DA MANTEIGA

A Fábrica da Manteiga da Fajã da Ovelha foi construída no início do século XX, por volta do ano de 1910 por Augusto César de Gouveia e seu filho Pedro de Gouveia, inspirados num mecanismo de desnatar o leite que  tinham em sua casa.

O edifício da fábrica está localizado no sítio de S. Lourenço junto à  ribeira de S. João e é composto por dois andares, sendo que no piso térreo produzia-se a “Manteiga Águia” e no piso superior, as massas.

Foi o primeiro edifício na freguesia da Fajã da Ovelha a dispor de electricidade que era produzida através da água da ribeira que fazia mover os geradores.

A manteiga produzida era adquirida pela população local que se deslocava de propositadamente à fábrica, no entanto a sua maioria era vendida para o Funchal e Continente, sendo até exportada para as colónias portuguesas.

Em 1960 a fábrica deixou de funcionar e posteriormente em 18 de Abril de 1974, foi vendida por um filho de Pedro Gouveia a um americano.

No ano de 2002, a Junta de Freguesia da Fajã da Ovelha solicitou à Secretaria Regional do Turismo e Cultura para que considerassem o imóvel como património da freguesia, estando este presentemente classificado como património de interesse municipal.

The Butter Factory

The Butter Factory of Fajã da Ovelha  was built in the early twentieth century, around the year 1910 by Augusto Cesar de Gouveia and his son Pedro de Gouveia, both inspired by a mechanism that was to skim the milk .

The factory building is located at a place called S.ão Lourenço next to the São João stream and it has two floors: the inferior one where the “Eagle Butter” was produced and the top floor where the pastas were made.

It was the first building in the parish of Faja da Ovelha to have electricity that was produced through the water of the stream that was used to make the generators work.

The butter produced was acquired by local people who purposely went to the factory, however the majority of the final production was sold to Funchal and to the mainland. Some of it was even exported to the portuguese colonies abroad.

In 1960, the factory closed and later on April 18, 1974, was sold by a son of Pedro Gouveia to an American citizen.

In 2002, the parish council of  Fajã da Ovelha requested the Regional Secretariat of Tourism and Culture to consider the property as an asset of the parish, the latter being currently classified as an asset of municipal interest.

Butterfabrik

Die Butterfabrik in Fajã da Ovelha wurde Anfang des 20.JHs, um 1910 herum durch Augusto César de Gouveia und seinem Sohn Pedro de Gouveia errichtet, inspiriert durch einen 

Mechanismus zur Entrahmung von Milch, den sie zu Hause hatten.

Das Gebäude der Fabrik, welches in S. Lourenço unmittelbar neben dem S. João-Bach errichtet wurde, besteht aus 2 Geschossen - ein Erdgeschoss,  in dem die Butter namens “Manteiga Águia” produziert wurde und ein Obergeschoss zur Herstellung von Nudelwaren.

Es war das erste Gebäude in der Gemeinde Fajã da Ovelha, welches über Elektrizität verfügte, welche mit Wasserkraft betriebenen Turbinen produziert wurde.

Die erzeugte Butter wurde zum einen von der örtlichen Bevölkerung erworben, welche sich mit dieser Absicht zur Fabrik begaben, ein Grossteil jedoch war für Funchal oder den Kontinent bestimmt und wurde sogar bis in die portugiesischen Kolonien exportiert.

1960 wurde die Produktion eingestellt und am 18. April 1974 von einem Sohn Pedro Gouveias an einen Amerikaner verkauft.

Im Jahre 2002 stellte die Gemeindeverwaltung von Fajã da Ovelha ein Ansuchen an das regionale Sekretariat für Tourismus  und Kultur, die Immobilie als Kulturerbe der Gemeinde auszuzeichnen. Diese ist zurzeit klassifiziert als Kulturgut von kommunalem Interesse.
